I am in a group with other artists that challenge each other to step outside their comfort zone and create!! This month we were given the challenge of doing something with player piano paper. Which is very thin and fragile and has little markings on it where it runs thru the gears to play the music...on the side of the paper some of the words were printed for the song. I did this piece on a 5 by 7 canvas board...First laying a background color down...going over that with several layers of plaster raked on...then highlighted with metallic gold and copper paint...The lace is from a wonderful stash I received from a friend of mine ...the words that I used from the piano paper were...THINKING...DREAMING... A lot of the paper is also within the plaster...I added the rolled up book pages which were antiqued and then added the old key and ostrich feather...Totally out of my comfort zone...but great fun!!

3rd picture...
This is the final picture for the gallery...and once again in my haste not a very good picture. The title: Lilac (well I suppose you could of figured that!!) Again this piece is 3-D and is 10 by 12 with the center canvas raised one half inch...The flowers on the lilac branch are done with a layering of plaster..and paint...paint and plaster...over watercolor paper...This process was done 3 times . The branch is an actual lilac branch from the tree in my backyard. Did that Jackson Pollack splatter painted background. Great fun!! Especially with a few blings added for the centers!!

Gallery Pieces...
I have decided that I need to take a photo class!! Anyhow, these are 2 of the 3 pieces that are off to a gallery today....The size is 10 wide by 12 high...They are both multi medium altered art with original artwork and will go in a show titled: SMALL (all art work can be no larger than 12 by 12) The base is pine that has been covered in mulberry paper...although the photo does not allow for you to see but the smaller piece is an artist canvas that has been 3-D one half inch from the base...
The butterfly painting is Titled: WHISPER...which goes along with the saying on the side: "To make a wish come true, whisper it to a butterfly" (which is part of a native American legend) The piece of wood was a souvenir from Hawaii. The butterfly was painted on watercolor paper and then cut out and adhered. There are 2 small word charms...One saying WISH...and one saying BELIEVE on the painting.
The bird was painted on watercolor paper and then cut out and adhered very 3-D also...There is an antique key and the proverb: "A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song." The TITLE: SING...
I am still "in the paint" for the 3rd piece and in holding with tradition...They are due at the gallery today....Love that 11th hour thing!!
